Moyola Park A.F.C.
This project involved the design of an amenity building, spectator viewing area and 3G playing field for this Irish Football Association soccer club, founded in 1880, adjacent to the Moyola River in Castledawson.
The project’s woodland location meant that existing ecological features were protected by the establishment of root protection zones, planting of additional trees along the river and the exclusion of construction traffic from the area. A temporary reservoir was constructed using a slush gate to contain overspill form the river throughout construction; this was strengthened and made permanent upon completion of construction.
The existence of vast amounts of peat on the Mill Meadow riverside site required an engineered dynamic stone base with geogrid membranes laid between various layers. Cryogenic rubber was used to infill the third genereation synthetic surface. The playing field was approved by an accredited test laboratory and is certified to FIFA 2 Star Category standard.
