Loughshore Park, Jordanstown
Our practice was contracted by Newtownabbey District Council to undertake the design and contract management of a new amenity centre at Loughshore Park, Jordanstown. Among the new tourism building features are a café, tourist information centre, changing/shower areas and a laundry room for use by the caravan park residents.
Existing landscaping features were upgraded while a new performance area, planted maze and a caravan park with touring and tent pitches, hard standing areas, electric, water and drainage provision. The council’s decision to actively promote music within the park led to the creation of a bandstand where six band members are characterised to provide humour and a windbreak for local performers whom the council hope to attract to the park. The site’s location along the Belfast Lough made flood prevention measures, including a new land drainage system, necessary, but also allowed for flooded ground to be turned into wetland for ducks and geese.
